About

CAD Lab (Comic Artist Development Lab) is for artists who are serious about developing their storytelling, skills, and techniques as a comic book artist/author. This lab consists of five monthly meetings: August 17, September 14, October 12, November 9, December 7 at 12:30-1:45 PM CST. In order for this lab to work well for everyone, attendance to these meetings is generally required. If the time doesn't work for you, please email us to ask about opening another section at a different time for the next semester. This group-learning experience is led by Ike Crawford (known for Ike Comics and being a co-founder of Clever Kaiju). He will teach on the topics that interest the group and encourage the group to teach each other, share resources, and possibly come up with their own goals for the semester. Note that this class is not a beginner, introductory course on drawing or drawing for comics. Some experience and knowledge about drawing comic book pages, 1- and 2-point perspective drawing, and drawing the human figure is going to be necessary for you to engage with the group, but don't fear being more of a beginner, because having a blend of beginner to veteran comic artists in the group will enhance the experience. Watch the recording of the intro session here: https://youtu.be/rH3DcGwofTo Note: Being able to download recordings of the meetings to review learning is often very helpful to lab participants, so we are choosing to record the meetings and make them accessible to CK staff, instructors, and lab participants. By signing up for this, you consent to being recorded! Also, note that clips from meeting recordings may be utilized by Clever Kaiju to advertise (e.g. on YouTube) but these clips will not show participant's faces/video without prior, separate consent specifically for that.
